Catalog / The Lambert Collection
Yvon Lambert, now 81, is one of the most influential collectors of our time. Lambert bought his first work of art with pocket money when he was just 14 years old. In 1966 he opened his own gallery in Paris, which soon became the top address for contemporary art. The art movements Minimal Art, Land Art and Conceptual Art, which were still young at the time, were first made known to a broad public in Europe by Lambert.
In addition to his work as a dealer, Lambert has assembled one of the most outstanding collections of contemporary art over the past 50 years. In 2011 he donated over 600 of his works to the French state, which are now on display in a dedicated museum in Avignon.
On the occasion of the Sculpture Projects in Münster 2017, the Pablo Picasso Art Museum in Münster is presenting the Lambert Collection for the first time in Germany. Above all, works by those artists will be shown who were represented in the sculpture projects in earlier years and are still present today through installations in the cityscape.
