Last years of a century artist

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is regarded as the innovator of art in the 20th century. He set new standards in painting, sculpture, graphics and ceramics. Less well known is his work in the last two decades of his life, when Picasso painted more portraits of his wife Jacqueline than he had ever done of any other model. "Picasso. The Late Work" shows the diversity and richness of this period. It also demonstrates his constant innovation in depicting the human figure. In works from the Jacqueline Picasso collection that have hardly been published to date, it is possible to understand how the painter developed his basic themes further: nudes, portraits, bullfighting and the confrontation with the Old Masters. The contributions examine Picasso's reaction to Pop Art, the role of music in his late work, the psychoanalytic dimension of Picasso's methods and the reception of his late work.
