The beginnings of the Weimar printing workshop At the State Bauhaus in Weimar, the printing shop was the first workshop to start operations in the spring of 1919. Printed graphics corresponded to the basic idea of ​​the Bauhaus by ideally realizing the unity of art and craft. With the pioneering project Bauhaus prints. New European Graphics were created in four portfolios, in which 45 representatives of the artistic avant-garde of Europe participated. The announcement brochure from 1921 said: "All the many who do not yet know anything about Bauhaus work and cannot know it should be made aware of us through this work." The book presents the portfolios published between 1921 and 1924 together with other works printed at the Bauhaus by Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky and Oskar Schlemmer. A Stuttgart prologue also sheds light on the influence of Adolf Hölzel, whose students and later Bauhaus masters Oskar Schlemmer and Johannes Itten brought many of his ideas to the Bauhaus. The book will be published to accompany the exhibition at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
