Paperweight / Picasso / La Colombe / Glass / 8 cm

The motif of this paperweight is inspired by Picasso's famous 1949 drawing La Colombe de la Paix (The Dove of Peace).

In 1949, a few years after World War II, a huge peace congress organized by the (communist-inspired) World Peace Movement was held in Paris. For this occasion, Picasso designed a poster to symbolize the peace movement.

Picasso draws the profile of a dove, like the white doves he keeps in cages in his studio and like the doves on the trees of his childhood in Malaga.
